We are pleased to welcome Sophia Alicea to NAVI Research Institute as our new Junior Research Fellow.

Sophia brings a strong academic background and a keen interest in international security and foreign policy. We look forward to her contributions to NAVI’s research and are delighted to have her join our team.

Sophia Alicea, Junior Research Fellow 

Sophia Alicea is the Junior Reseach Fellow at NAVI Research Institute and a Diplomacy and International Law student at the University of New York Prague. She was recently appointed as the 15th Youth Observer to the United Nations by the United Nations Association of the United States of America. Previously, she served as a Regional Security Studies Fellow at NAVI, a Young Leader in Foreign and Security Policy Fellow at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, and an Africa Fellow at the Babel Institute. Her work focuses on terrorism, maritime security, and religious extremism, with particular attention to instability across the Gulf of Aden, Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and the broader MENA and Sahel regions. Her writing has appeared in the Harvard College Law Review, Modern Treatise, International Policy Digest, and The Diplomatic Envoy.

The NAVI Research Institute is the research division of NATO Veterans Initiative - NAVI that provides a unique perspective to transatlantic leaders and societies on peace and security through the lens of NATO's founding principles of rule of law, democracy, human rights, and individual liberties. The NAVI Research Institute was officially established by the NAVI Board on July 16th, 2023.
